On July 3rd the weather was fantastic, the crowd was enthusiastic and the music flowed to near perfection. Both Second Wind and BlueStone Ivory were on their game and the crowd was with them the whole time.
There were a couple of hitches most people were not aware of though. Most folks didn't know that BSI was down one crew person for the whole gig. Here's what happened. We got a call the day before the show that Doug one of our key crew personnel and spot light operator was in the hospital to have his gall bladder removed. Ouch!
He came through the surgery with flying colors, in fact he was in attendance at the Blast of Brass show...just not in working capacity. Here he posed for us to prove his incapacity that day.
These are his scars from the surgery. Not too invasive but kept him from helping that day. Well, glad we have plenty of friends to chip in and help. We had Christine Kastrup volunteer to run the spot light and some of the BSI kids chipped in to help with the setup and tear down. We had Jason Kastrup, Jim's son help with set up and Alison and Kevin Kastrup Dave's two youngest chipped in and helped get everything packed and loaded on the truck after the show. It actually took 4 to do the job of Doug that day. The following week BSI ventured to our favorite summer venue. Coney Island and the Garden Party in Moonlite Gardens. July 10th was our first of two stops at Coney Island for 2009. Here we are wrapping up the finishing touches on our sound check just before the doors open and our very good friend JD Hughes starts spinning the crowd pleasing dance music. We always have a great crowd and this night was no exception. The night was warm and the air was clear and the music flowed all night long. The crowd danced until the last song at 12:05 am. We will be back on August 21st for our second time this year. This we are very happy about. The next night we were rained out from playing at the Clovernook Country Club concert on the Green...however, we moved everything inside and had a great time anyway. Actually after all the rain, the air was very warm and humid. We were pleased with the way everything turned out as were the folks at the Country Club. In fact they are having us back in the future.
This was a very cool gig because we were able to reunite with another good friend of ours Gary Burbank. He was hired to provide 60 minutes of comedic entertainment on our break. Well, Gary Burbank is just plain funny form the start to the finish. He has stories and characters that will keep you laughing for hours. Thanks for everything Gary.
We are now gearing up for a busy week. We begin in Lawrenceburg Indiana for their "Music on the River" concert series this Thursday night beginning at 7:00pm till 9:00pm.
Then Friday we are in Sharonville for the opening night of Sharonfest with Second Wind for our final show of the "Blast of Brass Tour 2009".
Saturday we wrap up the week for a relaxing gig at one of our new favorite clubs Carlo & Johnny in Montgomery. Check out our website for all the details.

Glad to know that Clovernook wants to have the band back. If I were a gambler, I would have bet that they'd have you back again. You were very well-received that night...as you are everywhere you play. How many places have you played where you were blocking the path to the ladies restroom? Looking forward to 3 nights in a row of my favorite band.
