Happy birthday to Mark Walker our lighting tech and Lee Heftel our bass player. Mark's birthday was on September 5th and Lee celebrated his 50th birthday on Saturday September 12.
In the BlueStone Ivory tradition we really celebrate our birthdays in a large way. Well, a few of us have a lot of fun with them and the end result is usually a joint creative venture and a belly full of laughs from all members.
It starts by gathering funny ideas from the members. Then these ideas are discussed by Gary and Rusty. Finally Rusty will do his Photoshop magic and send it on to Gary for final proof and production of the birthday card with verse. We used to have these images put on a birthday cake. That got to be a little expensive and repetitive.
Everyone is in awe at some of the creative ideas that end up on our birthday cards. Most of them are classic. One of the funniest was two years ago Lee said and I quote "I don't want my face on no stinking birthday cake". Well, he got his wish. What usually happens Mark and Lee's birthdays are in the same week each year. So Rusty superimposed Marks head on Lees body and we did a joint birthday cake. Here is the end result of what went on that birthday cake.
You can just imagine some of the funny stuff we do for each other each year. By now everyone has caught on and it is almost expected. That makes the challenge much more difficult. What can we come up with next? We just don't seem to run out of ideas though. In fact for Rusty's birthday card this year Ted and Rick came up with the same idea without even communicating. That was more fun.
Well, enough of the silly stuff. You get the idea. BSI is more than just a Rock-n-Roll band. We are all brothers and care for each other and have a lot of fun together on and off the stage.
What is in store for BlueStone Ivory the next four weeks. Well you will get two opportunities to come out and see us play. The first will be at Carlo & Johnnythis Saturday night September 19th. Lee is in Connecticut and New York this week playing with the opening band for a Three Dog Night concert and visiting his Mother so Bob Wilson will be setting in for him. We really have fun when Bob gets to play with us. That is a real treat.
Our next gig two weeks later on October 3rd will be at the 34th Annual Pumpkin Run Nationals. We start playing around 8:00 pm. After the Famous Bean and corn bread dinner is over. The Pumpkin Run is the single largest car show in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. Last year they had over 2,800 cars in attendance. Watch this video for a sneak preview of what you will be missing if you don't venture out to the Clermont County Fairgrounds that weekend.
Soon after it will be time to gear up for Halloween. We have some special surprises in store for you then so stay tuned.
Last but not least. Ted has been working very hard the past several weeks on overhauling our BlueStone Ivory website. When you check it out next time you will see an all new look. We all love the new look. Great job Ted. He is so talented in many other ways than playing guitar and singing. Ted has also added many new photos from our summer gigs. So be sure to check it out.
